Strawberry “Lord” - royal harvests, royal berries
"Lord" is one of the most popular varieties of strawberries or, as it is called in another way, garden strawberries. This explains the increased attention to the berry not only from summer residents and subsidiary plots, but also from professional agricultural enterprises and breeders. The first bushes of this variety were bred by British breeders in the last century. Their fruits are large-fruited varieties of medium and late ripening in the form of large, juicy and unpretentious berries in the care.

“Lord” is one of the most productive varieties on the modern strawberry market. A rich harvest of fruits with proper care can be obtained already in the 3rd year of growing berries. After a couple of years, happy owners collect up to 3 kg from one bush. The berry ripens, starting from the last week of June and ending in mid-July.
Bushes of this variety have a sufficient height of up to 60 cm and straight rather powerful stems.
The number of horns and peduncles increases with increasing age of the strawberries, reaching 30 peduncles in one bush.
Despite the fact that the stalks of the Lord are strong enough, they often do not withstand the size of the fruits, which bend them to the ground with their considerable weight. That is why the bushes of garden strawberries especially need a garter, which, as a rule, consists in pulling a wire or rope along the rows, on which the peduncles are laid.
Flowers and berries
Berries "Lord" have considerable weight and size, dense texture, have a bright red color and rich aroma.
Strawberries of this variety are notable for their sweet taste, which, however, depend on weather conditions. For example, rainy weather during ripening gives the taste a sour tint.
Taste characteristics are formed at the moment of full ripening of the berry a week before harvesting. The weight of the berry varies from 80-110 gr.
Yield of wild strawberry
Berry productivity directly depends on the number of peduncles on one bush.
Peduncles every year increases by 2 times, respectively, in the same way the yield increases.
The first strawberries ripen in the middle of June. At this time, according to experienced gardeners, a plantation of two hundred young bushes gives up to 150 liters of high-quality strawberries. The berry is picked regularly throughout the entire period of its ripening.
It is interesting! In the conditions of the sun and worthy leaving, one lord strawberry bush can give up to 3 kg of sweet fragrant berries.
Strawberry variety "Lord" is a fairly dense berry. Due to this property, as well as the rich structure of the pulp, the berry has additional advantages of storage and transportation.
If transportation is necessary, experts advise picking strawberries a few days before the final ripeningand, when picking berries from the bush, small tails should remain on it. To make strawberries feel better on the road, you also need to choose the right time for the harvest.
Important! It is best to collect strawberries while drying the morning dew, or on the eve of the evening sunset. So that strawberries do not let juice on the road, the collected fruits are placed in a single layer in plastic or wooden boxes, which are covered with a cotton cloth for storage or transportation.

- Taste, juiciness and size of the fruit;
- High productivity, reaching 3 kg of berries from one bush;
- Long period of bushes fertility;
- Resistance to pests and pathogenic bacteria;
- The strength and power of peduncles, with increased resistance to the weight of berries;
- Resistance to cold, allowing to withstand up to 8 ° C frost during spring frosts;
- Easy care both during ripening and during the breeding season, which is ensured by the optimal number of whiskers;
- Strawberries of this variety require increased attention in the care and feeding, which should be carried out at least 4 times per season.
- Volumetric and branched strawberry bushes require an expanded living space for the plant, since the bushes must be planted at least half a meter apart.
Planting and reproduction
Strawberries of the Lord variety are propagated in three main ways - using seeds, mustaches and dividing bushes. Let us dwell on each of them in more detail.
Planting and Seedling Care
Growing garden large-fruited strawberries from seeds is considered the optimal method of propagation for this variety.
The action algorithm of amateur gardeners with this method includes an independent procurement of berry seeds.
For this, the largest berries are selected from the obtained crop, from which the upper seed part is cut. Strawberries are ground, dried and soaked in clean water for several days, after which the seeds are sown in pots with the ground. After the appearance of sprouts, they are thinned out and tempered, taking seedlings to fresh air.
Important! The optimal time for sowing in room conditions is from January to March.
The planting material when using this method of propagation is the first whisker of a young strawberry bush, the roots of which reached 1.5 cm, and two leaves appeared on it.
The mustache, separated from the mother bush, is planted on a separate, well-fertilized bed. The mustache is planted in several rows about 10-12 cm apart.
During the first week after planting, evening watering and shelter from bright direct sunlight is mandatory. Evidence that the seedling has taken root is the appearance of a third leaf on it, after which the earth around the seedlings is loosened and fed.
As a rule, top dressing is carried out initially with the help of ash, after a few days - with mineral, and a little pose with organic fertilizers diluted with water. Watering is carried out with an interval of 2-3 days. By the end of July, young seedlings grown in this way already have 5 leaves and a developed root system.
Reproduction by dividing the bush
Reproduction of the variety using this method is carried out in bushes 2-4 years of age, which have a well-developed and healthy rhizome.
The bushes are divided either in spring or autumn so that each newly formed bush has its own rosette with leaves. To do this, strawberry bushes are dug up, cut in half and planted in pre-prepared holes.
However since varietal the benefits of using strawberry bushes are not always transmitted, this method of reproduction is the least preferred, and therefore it is used quite rarely.
Despite the fact that the Lord strawberry is resistant to diseases and pests, in order to prevent the plant, proper care must be taken, which consists of watering and regular weeding, removing dried leaves, mulching rows, pollination and fertilizing.
Abundant watering, especially during flowering and bud formation is an indispensable condition for strawberries "Lord". At this stage, strawberries need to be watered daily, in average volumes - a liter of water for each bush.
It is also important to avoid excessive dampness and moisture stagnation, which affect the taste of the berry. And therefore, in the period of prolonged rains, the "Lord" is even covered with a protective film. According to professional gardeners, the best option is microdrop watering berries.
Strawberries of this variety need replanting every 4 years. It is carried out by digging a bush, and separating from it young shoots with their own roots.
It is important to ensure that during growth the planting point or the so-called "heart" of the plant does not fall asleep otherwise it may die.
Important! The optimal time for transplanting is the beginning of autumn, when the heat subsides, and there is time for rooting before the onset of frost.
Fertilizer and fertilizing
Strawberries of the Lord variety are very sensitive to fertilizers, and therefore needs to be fed several times per season.
- At the first stage, plants are fertilized before planting seedlings in the soil or in the period preceding the formation of the first leaves. This applies to strawberries planted in previous seasons. For these purposes, peat and humus, mineral fertilizers that do not contain chlorine, as well as a mixture of humus and ash are used.
- In the second stage, the already grown bushes are fertilized with a solution of urea and sodium glutamate.
- Later, after the first leaves appear, top dressing with a nitrogen content, nitroammophosk and urea are used.
- At the fruit setting stage, strawberries are fertilized with potassium nitrate, as well as a solution of ash.
- At the last stage, by mid-autumn, strawberries are fertilized with manure mixed with ash, after which two weeks later the beds are watered with a solution of ash, sodium sulfate, water and nitrophosphate. And finally, before the onset of frost, each bush is covered with humus or cow dung.
Diseases and Pests
Despite the fact that one of the advantages of the Lord variety is its resistance to pathogenic pests, it is important to carry out preventive measures in this regard.
In the event that the crop is still at risk, it is worth using alternative methods of counteraction, leaving chemical remedies only for extreme cases.
For example, you can get rid of a small wireworm worm by treating the leaves with lime mortar or potassium permanganate, corn flour helps snails well, and treating bushes with kerosene will allow removing silkworm butterfly larvae.
To avoid the problems associated with diseases, sweet berry bushes must be constantly inspected, prevented, and timely removed affected leaves. Proper care and respect for the berry of this variety will surely return handsomely in the form of a rich harvest of large, sweet and juicy berries.
